A GPS vehicle tracking system is commonly used to determine the exact location of any vehicle by using the global positioning system. The location of the vehicle can be recorded at regular intervals which can either be stored in the tracking unit or can be transmitted to the computer having an internet connection.
This has only become possible because of the radio, mobile or satellite modem which is embedded in the GPS vehicle tracking device. The GPS vehicle tracking system uses a network of satellites that are orbiting the earth. These satellites transmit the location data back to earth continuously.
GPS vehicle tracking systems are generally used to find out the accurate location and provide navigation information to vehicles, ships and planes. Businesses that use vehicles for transportation purposes essentially need to monitor each and every movement of their fleet vehicles. The 24 satellites that orbit our earth transmit signals which are received by the GPS receivers for determining speed, location and direction of vehicles. GPS vehicle tracking systems can be effectively used in cars, vans, trucks, buses and taxis etc.
Once the GPS receiver receives the satellite transmissions, location and other information like direction and speed can be easily calculated. As this information is transmitted directly from the satellites, it is more accurate. With the introduction of a GPS vehicle tracking system, fleet managers can now breathe a sigh of relief by keeping a constant track and watch on their fleet vehicles in real time.
