At one point, GPS systems were a dream of a few science fiction writers. However, there has been a leap from fiction to reality with the help of satellites orbiting the earth. Vehicle navigation and tracking systems use GPS satellite receivers. Handheld and portable GPS tracking systems also rely on GPS data. All these systems are very useful for small and large businesses.
A GPS system uses satellite data for determining the exact location of the vehicle. There are 24 satellites that continuously orbit the earth gathering exact information. At least four of these satellites are required to determine the location of the vehicle. A gyroscope helps to maintain the tracking information through twists and turns and the vehicle speed sensor fills the gap when the satellite signal is lost. The information about the location is then superimposed onto maps.
The detailed map information is stored on either a CD or DVD. Many GPS tracking systems have business addresses, so whenever you enter the name, the GPS system will direct you to that address. Some GPS tracking systems have detailed information about restaurants, hotels, shopping centres and even banks. Whenever you drive your vehicle on an unknown road and you need directions for some cash, you can easily find the nearest ATM on your way.
